The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is a powerful pro-Israel lobby in the US.
AIPAC labels itself bipartisan but has also come under criticism by many who feel it is too closely aligned with the Republican Party in the US and the Likud Party in Israel.
It is also often contrasted with J Street, another pro-Israel organization in the US often seen as being more closely aligned with the American and Israeli Left.
In late 2021, AIPAC announced it would begin fundraising efforts and endorsements for certain political candidates in the US.
Jews worldwide celebrated as the IDF rescued four hostages from Hamas in Gaza. Organizations lauded the operation while advocating for the release of remaining captives.
Elliot Brandt, currently the AIPAC’s vice CEO, will succeed longtime CEO Howard Kohr, who is stepping down at year’s end after nearly 20 years leading the group.

Under Kohr’s leadership, AIPAC has traversed five presidencies and more than 10 Israeli elections.
“For Israel, every civilian death is a tragedy. For Hamas, every civilian death is a strategy,” he said.
The campaign accompanies an increasingly organized movement within the Democratic Party protesting Biden's support of Israel.
