Winter is in full swing, bringing chilly evenings and cool days. It's the time when a running nose and a little cough become all too common. Drinking water might not be appealing, but fear not, because tea comes to the rescue.

Not only does it warm the body and relax the mind, but it also strengthens the body's systems. However, not all teas are created equal, and it's important to choose the right ones for your needs. If you're unsure, consult a qualified naturopathic therapist for guidance.

When it comes to tea, it's all about harnessing the natural powers of infusions and adding value to your drink. Simple infusions found in any supermarket or home-grown plants can provide a warm and relaxed feeling.

Chamomile, known for its calming properties, aids both the mind and stomach. Other soothing plants like melissa, sage, verbena, and lavender can be combined to create a personalized blend. These options are also suitable for children, but remember to serve at an appropriate temperature.

Allow the plants to brew for at least 5 minutes, or simmer on low heat for optimal extraction of the active ingredients.

Looking for a more elaborate and comforting drink?

Prepare a pot of "golden milk." This special concoction not only warms and comforts but also improves mood and strengthens the immune system. Share it with friends and family or pack it in a thermos for our soldiers, reminding them of home even when they're far away.

The key ingredient, turmeric, boasts anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, and supports the body's defense against winter ailments. Black pepper aids in the absorption of curcumin from turmeric, while cinnamon warms and helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Cardamom enhances immune system activity, and ginger stimulates blood flow. It's truly a super drink.

To make "golden milk," combine the following ingredients in a heavy pot:

1 glass of vegetable milk (such as almond, oat, or rice drink).

1 teaspoon of turmeric.

1 cinnamon stick, a small amount of fresh ginger (grated).

2 cardamom pods, and 2 black peppercorns.

Bring to a boil and then simmer over low heat for 7 minutes.

Add a touch of maple syrup or sweetener of choice if desired.

Ortal Brobin-Chen, a n.d. naturopath and coordinator of general naturopathy and complementary medicine, recommends this recipe.

Whether you opt for a simple infusion or indulge in the delicious "golden milk," these teas offer both nourishment and pleasure. Embrace the warmth, relax, and enjoy the wonders they do for your body and soul.
